Emollient Enhancement of the Skin Barrier from Birth Offers Effective Atopic Dermatitis Prevention
Summary:
Atopic Dermatitis is an inflammatory skin disease of wide prevalence that has seen to impact quality of life in both children and adults across the globe. Although there is limited successful research that focuses on prevention of this disease, recent advancements suggest skin barrier disruption at an early age could be a key initiator of Atopic Dermatitis. In a study involving neonates at high-risk of atopic dermatitis, it was demonstrated that emollient therapy from birth represents a feasible, safe, and effective approach for atopic dermatitis prevention.
