Summary:

The purpose of this evidence-based clinical practice guideline developed by the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) is to guide health care professionals with clinical practice recommendations for neonatal skin care based on robust clinical findings. This guideline describes evidence-based approaches in assessing and identifying skin conditions in neonates, recognizing factors impacting skin integrity, interventions for both low- and high-risk neonates, supporting normal skin development, and prevention for future skin sensitization. This guideline contains recommendations for common baby skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, diaper dermatitis, and cradle cap.
