WEEKS 1–12

6 cartridges/day (max. 12 cartridges/day)

WEEKS 13–24

Reduce number of cartridges gradually. When reduced to 1–2 cartridges/day, patient should stop using the inhaler.

The inhaler should not be used for more than 20 consecutive minutes per session.

Patients should try different schedules to help control cravings. Puffing on the inhaler for 5 minutes at a time will give enough nicotine for 4 uses. Puffing on the inhaler for 10 minutes at a time will give enough nicotine for 2 uses. In a few days patients will find what works best and know when nicotine in cartridges is used up.

Reassess your patient if they need to use Nicorette® Inhaler for longer than 6 months to keep from smoking.

It is important to complete treatment. If your patient has a cigarette while trying to quit smoking, instruct them to keep using the Nicorette® Inhaler and keep trying to quit.

If the amount of Nicorette® Inhaler your patient is taking do not help them stop smoking, reassess them and explore about using more than one type of nicotine replacement therapy at the same time.
