As awareness of neurodiversity grows, dental professionals are rethinking how care is delivered to better meet the needs of all clients. This upcoming webinar invites dental professionals to explore inclusive strategies for supporting neurodivergent clients. Learn how sensory processing differences affect dental visits, discover practical tools for appointment success, and gain insights into personalized at-home oral care recommendations that truly make a difference.

Learning Objectives 

  1. Identify key characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and related neurodiverse conditions, and explain how these traits may influence behavior, communication, and comfort during dental appointments.

  2. Recognize common sensory processing challenges experienced by neurodiverse individuals and understand their impact on the dental environment.

  3. Apply simple, practical tools and techniques to improve the success of dental visits for neurodiverse clients.

  4. Recommend appropriate at-home oral hygiene strategies and products tailored to the sensory and behavioral needs of neurodiverse individuals, supporting long-term oral health.

About the Presenters 

Kayla Ragosin-Miller

Kayla Ragosin-Miller, RDH

Kayla Ragosin-Miller is a University of Manitoba graduate in Dental Hygiene. She has been the Hygienist at BC Children’s Hospital for the past 18 years and is a lecturer on Special Needs Dentistry. She created the Special Smiles Dental Intervention Program for those with Autism and Related Disorders that has been highly successful and sought after in BC. Kayla partnered with CIRCA at UBC to collaborate and develop a professional development module for professionals to learn to support autistic and neurodivergent clients in the dental office. She also works as a part time instructor and has worked in the same private practice for the past 26 years.

Lacey Smith

Lacey Smith, RDH

Lacey Smith is a Registered Dental Hygienist and Senior Dental Consultant for LISTERINE® Mouthwash, from Summerland, BC. She started her dental career at a young age as a Sterilization Technician in 2005. Lacey then graduated from the Dental Hygiene program at St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario in 2009 and received the Hu-Friedy Golden Scaler award. Soon after, she headed west for the mountains.

In 2015, after spending many years working in general practice, Lacey switched gears into periodontal practice and really enjoyed the challenges and triumphs of her years spent working in perio.

Since 2022, Lacey has been working for Listerine® Mouthwash, as a Senior Dental Consultant and Educator. She supports Listerine® with their Dental School Support Program, manages relationships with dental health professionals, as well as supports conference presence throughout Canada. Lacey takes great pride in the opportunity to educate and mentor her peers, but also to learn from and alongside them.
